(Withdrawn) Gaj Singh (AD 1746-1786; AH 1159-1201), Gold, 10.843 g, Square Nazarana Gaj-Shahi Mohur, issued in the name of the then current Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II with the obv legend reading, from top to bottom, Shah Alam Badshah Ghazi / Sahib Qiran Sani / Sikka Mubarak. The rev legend reads Zarb Baldat Bikaner Manus Maimanat Julus Sanah 7, with the identifying mint mark of Gaj Singh as a dot in a circle, placed above RY 7 (= AH 1180 or AD 1765). Mint State with luster, Unpublished, First-Known and Unique.
Webb in his 1893 book, the Currencies of the Hindu States of Rajputana, has listed obverse die of silver coins (Plate V, No. 8) with the same couplet as seen on the present Mohur. However, not a single silver or gold coins has ever been discovered with this couplet. All the coins catalogued so far are issued in the name of Alamgir II and not of Shah Alam II. In this light the present Nazarana Mohur reconfirms the line drawing of Webb, which he had seen in circulation, vis a vis the minting of special Nazarana Mohurs also. Great Rarity!
