East India Company - Madras Presidency

 Kaisar-i-Hind Medal, George V, Gold, 1st Issue, an oval badge surmounted by the imperial crown, the royal cypher set within a wreath on obv.; For Public Service in India around the edge, Kaisar-I-Hind (Emperor of India) on a scroll across the center against a floral background, 1st Class, complete with ribbon and brooch bar (MYB# 38). Within original ribbon and pin of issue, Mint State, Extremely Rare for British gold medals.
Queen Victoria founded this medal, for award to those who had performed public service in India, regardless of colour, creed and gender. The most famous recipient of this award was Mahatma Gandhi who was awarded it in 1914, but he returned it to the British in 1919, however, Gandhiji returned it subsequently following the massacre at Jalianawallabagh.
