Anvil Die of Obverse of Nazarana Double Rupee, Bronze, Weight 310 g, 36 mm face of the Die, Height 40 mm, Anvil Die of Obverse of probably Nazarana 2 (Double) Rupees, Udaipur Mint, issued between AD 1780-1850; the Obverse Die reads in Persian in reverse, Sikka Mubarak / Badshah Ghazi / Shah Alamgir, the mint marks include the traditional leaf symbol in the first line, Sun rays in the second line and the Star mark of Udaipur mint next to the sun symbol; an upside down Flag symbol in the third line if the obverse (similar to normal Rupee coins, KM# C32). The Nazarana Die of the multiple Rupees, 2 Rupees in this case has a complete die impression but without any traces of the outer circle and dotted border, indicating thereby that these features were not incorporated in these coins. The denomination of the resultant coins can be verified by the size of the dies, the higher the denomination, the broader the die will be. Extremely Fine+, Great Rarity. From 1791 to 1814, Mewad was under the Governorship of Sindhias, and acted more like a Maratha Province under the Subhedars like Ambaji Angre, Lakwa Dada and Bapu Sindhia. During this time enormous tributes were paid to the Marathas. It is quite likely that the present die was employed to mint Nazarana Double Rupee coins to pay as tributes to the Marathas. No Nazarana coins in circular shape of Rupee, its fractions and Multiples of Rupees are ever reported till now. In this light the present evidence of a probable Nazarana Double Rupee of the State throws a significant light on the practice of issuing Nazarana coins and Nazarana coins of Multiple Rupees, quite like the Partapgarh State (see 5 dies of Partapgarh State hereunder).
