AUC#64 - Lot 43 : Silver
Sultanates

Bengal Sultanate, Bahadur Shah jointly with Muhammad III bin Tughluq (AD 1328), Silver, 10.45 g, Tanka, joint Issue, Hazrat Sonargaon mint (Rajgor# 162; G&G# B116). About Extremely Fine+, Extremely Rare. Muhammad bin Tughluq reinstated Bahädur as his Governor of East Bengal in Sunargaon around the AH year 726. Two years later, Bahadur issued gold and silver coins bearing his own name and that of Muhammad Tughluq. The coins state that they were struck by order of him who trusts in Allah, Muhammad Tughluq; but the latter may well have regarded this as an act of rebellion. Certainly Bahädur is reported to have rebelled against his Dehli master and come to an unfortunate end. Most of these coins were melted down and only a handful of these extremely rare coins have survived now.
