Export of Antiquities :

According to the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 (Act No. 52 of 1972), items (including coins) over 100 years old, cannot be exported out of India except with the permission of the Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, Janpath, New Delhi.


Registration of Coins :

According to the Antiquities and Art Treasure Rules 1973 of the Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972 (Act No. 52 of 1972), and Amendment S.O. 448 (E), dated 2.7.1976 as amended by S.O. 397 (E), dated 15.5.1980, all coins and Numismatic materials are EXCLUDED from the Compulsory Registration of Antiquities.

Hence any person residing in India can collect any number of numismatic materials like coins, tokens, medals, banknotes and paper money, without having any restrictions of Registering them with the Government of India.

To Sell coins and Notes, you do NOT have to have to Pay any kinds of charges like Registration Charges, Form Charges, RBI Charges, Government Charges, etc. Beware of Fraud People asking for such charges from innocent sellers.

Registration of Antiquities :

However, all the antiquities listed as per the following Schedule of the said Amendment, need to be compulsorily be Registered with the Archaeological Survey of India. (http://asiegov.gov.in)
The Schedule
The following antiquities which have been in existence for not less than one hundred years, namely:
1. Sculptures in stone, terracotta, metal, ivory and bone;
2. Paintings (including miniatures and tanks) in all media, that is to say, paper, wood, cloth, silk and the like;
3. Manuscripts, where such manuscripts contain paintings,illustrations or illuminations;
4. Sculptured figures in wood (both in relief and round)."
